A traditional Edo Period (1603-1868 C.E.) dwelling
Yamaguchi Residence, a Traditional Town House of Sakai City

The main building is a rare early Edo period townhouse built in 1617, right after the town area was destroyed in the summer campaign of the siege of Osaka. Just as Kyoto people were famous for buying too many clothes and Osaka people were famous for buying too much food, Sakai people were famed for sparing no luxury in the construction of buildings. The Yamaguchi residence may show traces of this reputation. This charming facility is a national important cultural property where visitors can experience traditional townhouse life in Sakai.
