A town filled with traditional architecture
Imai-cho
Imai-cho was established as a town built within a semi-fortified Ikko-shu Jodo Shinshu dojo compound at the end of the Warring States period. After submitting to Oda Nobunaga and being granted autonomy, it flourished to the point that the saying "70% of Yamato's gold can be found within Imai" developed, and it was known as one of the two richest cities: "along the sea, Sakai; inlands, Imai." Even now, around 500 buildings with traditional architecture remain.
